We are delighted to invite proposals for Special Sections to feature in future issues of Museum Worlds: Advances in Research.
We are looking for sections that engage with the journal’s core remit — tracing and commenting on regional, theoretical, methodological, and topical themes in museum studies, and encouraging comparison across global settings. Possible themes might include regional trends in museum theory and practice, current challenges such as climate change or the Indigenisation of museums, or a panel from a recent conference.
Special Sections are normally up to 60,000 words and typically include an editorial comment (1,000 words) plus up to six full-length articles of 7,000 words. Section editors are also welcome to incorporate conversation pieces, photo essays, or shorter reports to suit the theme.
To propose a section, please submit a 500-word abstract outlining the focus of your section, along with an indicative list of content and authors, as a Word document by 1st October 2026 to:

Decision will be made on which proposal(s) will be accepted for Museum Worlds Volume 16 by 1 November 2026. Peer-reviewed section content submitted to Jason Gibson and Alison Brown by 1st February 2028, for publication in Museum Worlds Volume 16, 2028.
