CURATOR-ACADEMIC LEARNING & ENGAGEMENT – (T209111)

Description

The Curator of Academic Learning and Engagement will lead a robust program of educational initiatives that utilizes AEIVA’s dynamic exhibitions, publications, and permanent collection to enhance academic and experiential learning at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with AEIVA Senior Director, AEIVA Curator, and campus/community partners to develop, manage, and conduct academic programing related to AEIVA’s exhibitions and permanent collection.
  • Serve as the AEIVA liaison to UAB faculty.
  • Develop new, while also reinforcing existing relationships with various UAB entities and departments in a manner that fosters and promotes innovative and interdisciplinary collaborations that promote the integration and alignment of AEIVA’s exhibitions and programming into the UAB Core Curriculum and Strategic Plan.
  • Serve as liaison to UAB’s ArtPlay to ensure consistency and cohesion between AEIVA’s academic and K-12 educational programming.
  • Recruit, train, and lead AEIVA’s paid Student Tour Guide program Recruit and manage AEIVA Education interns.
  • Assist AEIVA Curator with management of part-time, contract, and student staff Assist AEIVA Senior Director and AEIVA Curator in preserving AEIVA’s not about us without us approach to exhibition programming, interpretation, and narrative development.
  • Assist in developing, writing, and editing of AEIVA interpretive and didactic text panels and related literature.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range:  $45,395  – $59,015  – $73,770

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Museum Studies, Art History, Arts Education, Cultural Anthropology or related Visual/Cultural discipline and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirements.
